Why You Shouldn’t Wait Until the New Year to Job Search

Why you Shouldn’t Wait until the New Year to Job Search

So, you’re looking for a new role in renewable energy. You want to go into the New Year with fresh opportunities and plenty of motivation to make the best of this exciting venture. But it’s coming up to Christmas – you might as well wait until January to start the job search now, right? Wrong!

There’s a long-standing misconception that December isn’t a great time to start a job hunt or apply for new roles – however, the notion is merely a myth!

There are plenty of reasons to turn your job-hunting endeavour up a gear towards the end of the year, and doing so might even lead to you finding your dream role a lot quicker than you could’ve imagined…

Why your Job Search Should Start Now

Everyone Leaves in January

According to a Glassdoor survey, ‘January is the month employees are most likely to think about changing jobs, with almost one in five (17%) citing this as the most popular month to make a move.’

If you wait until the New year to start your job search, you’ll be competing with that 17% for the best roles out there.

Instead of following the crowd, it’s best to lead by example. Get your applications in before January to really stand out. You’ll beat the rush, more roles will be available for you to apply to, and you might even find that employers have more time to review your application before the January chaos sets in.

Especially when it comes to renewable energy recruitment, we find that early bird really does get the worm.

Employers have Hiring Budgets to Use

While the same can’t be said for every company, many businesses, including some of those related to renewable energy, have hiring budgets that run from January – December.

This means there will be plenty of companies out there looking to hire now. They’ll be actively searching for the right candidate, meaning all of their efforts will be focused on doing so rather than their attention being pulled in a million different directions as it will be in January.

Sending in your application for the right renewable energy role now could see you ready to kickstart your new career venture by January.

Why Wait?

Even if applying in December compared to January only ups your chances of obtaining a role by a small percentage, it’s still worth it.

Holding off now could see you waiting around to start your renewable energy role until the spring, something you may not want to do if you’re already considering a move now.

Set yourself apart from the rest and instead of slowing down your job hunt on the run-up to the festive period, step up your game. You’ll beat the January rush, stay one step ahead of the crowd and allow yourself to go into the New Year with fresh opportunities on the horizon.
