Reports To: Chief Operating Officer

Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Underground Utilities Superintendent to lead and oversee field operations for underground electrical infrastructure, streetlighting, and telecommunications work. This role provides leadership across multiple field teams, including General Foremen, subordinate Superintendents, and crews executing complex underground, streetlight, and telecom projects.
The Senior Superintendent ensures alignment between field execution, project requirements, customer expectations, and company objectives, while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Field Operations Leadership
  • Lead and supervise General Foremen across multiple scopes, including electrical, civil, and telecom projects.
  • Develop leadership capability within General Foremen, including mentorship, preconstruction involvement, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure effective field execution without direct involvement in day-to-day tasks.
  • Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Work extended hours, including nights and weekends as required.
Project Execution & Customer Management
  • Serve as primary point of contact for assigned projects from start to completion.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and risk through General Foremen.
  • Coordinate with clients, utilities, vendors, and external engineering resources.
  • Ensure constructability and sequencing align with field conditions and project goals.
  • Support internal teams on billing, production tracking, and project performance reporting.
Schedule & Productivity
  • Develop and maintain short-term and look-ahead field schedules.
  • Plan manpower, equipment, and material requirements.
  • Monitor crew productivity and labor efficiency.
  • Identify, communicate, and resolve schedule constraints.
Operational Performance Management
  • Cost Control: Monitor field performance against budgets and production targets; address inefficiencies.
  • Safety: Enforce safety standards and ensure accountability across crews.
  • Quality: Ensure work meets project specifications and utility standards.
  • Production: Drive accountability for meeting production goals and schedules.
  • Documentation: Oversee reporting, timesheets, unit entry, and change order tracking.
Coordination & Client Management
  • Coordinate utility locates, permitting, and field planning.
  • Resolve conflicts across underground, streetlight, and telecom scopes.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, inspectors, and utility representatives.
Union / Labor Relations Experience
  • Lead operations within a union workforce environment (IBEW preferred).
  • Maintain compliance with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs).
  • Support workforce planning and coordination with union labor.
Experience Required
  • 10+ years of electrical or utility construction experience.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role managing field supervisors.
  • Journeyman Lineman background strongly preferred.
  • Underground Residential Distribution (URD) experience required.
  • Three-phase underground distribution experience preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, crews, and field leaders.
  • Telecommunications or fiber deployment experience preferred.
